Here we will discuss the players City could sign.
Lucas Paqueta (Midfielder,West Ham United)
Lucas Paqueta has been heavily linked with Manchester City for a long time now.The Brazilian midfield gem is currently one of the best players in the Premiere League and that too while playing for a poor West Ham side.
Paqueta’s range of passing and dribbling ability are his top traits. He finds pockets of space in the final third with his intelligent movement. He is pretty adapt at playing at different positions in the midfield. He can orchestrate the midfield as no.8 and can play as a creative no.10 just behind the striker.
With Kevin De Bruyne’s future pretty much in the air and Bernardo Silva’s possible move to FC Barcelona, Manchester City should make Paqueta their top tranfer target. He may cost around whopping 100 million pounds but in this inflated transfer market this is not an exorbitant price for the player of Paqueta’s calibre.Last season he played 43 times for West Ham United in all competitions, scored 8 goals and provided 7 assists.
Paqueta also created number of chances for his teammates that they failed to convert.Manchester City must go all out to acquire the services of the Brazilian ace.
Joshua Kimmich (Bayern Munich )
The German maestro Joshua Kimmich is one of the most versatile players in the world. He can play as a right back and in midfield with almost equal efficiency.Kimmich has been a great servant for the Bavarian giants for a decade now.
With his Bayern contract expiring next summer, there is a possibility that he could leave the club in the current transfer window.New contract talks have stalled for now. Manchester City must pounce on this opportunity and convince the former RB Leipzig player to join the Etihad outfit.
Kimmich will provide cover for two positions for the Pep Guardiola’s team.He will be an able deputy for Kyle Walker at the right back position and will provide the breathing space for City’s most important player, Rodri at the base of the midfield. Rodri has to play each and every game for his club due to the lack of like for like replacement.Kimmich’s signing will significantly lighten the Spain International’s burden.
The transfer will also reunite Kimmich with his old mentor Pep Guardiola who played a vital role in his development at Bayern Munich. It also provides the 29 years old with a fresh new challenge and a chance to prove himself in the biggest football league on the planet.
A quality Left Back
The only position where Manchester City don’t have much squad depth is the left back slot. The only specialist left back Sergio Gomez has left the club although Pep never showed much faith in him during his two years stay at the club. Last season Josko Gvardiol ,a centre back by trade was deployed at the left back spot and he ended the season in a rich vein of form after starting poorly.
City should look to add a specialist left back to their squad in this transfer window. There are not many quality left backs in the market but Manchester City’s pulling power could lure any top player to play for the club especially with Pep Guardiola at the helm.
Two names spring to the mind:
1.Alphonso Davies (Bayern Munich)
The Canadian speedster is currently one of the best left backs in the world. His attacking output and speedy recovery runs make him an ideal player for the attack minded Manchester City outfit
.Davies has won everything at Bayern and may look for a new challenge. His contract is about to expire in a year’s time and Bayern could not bear to let him leave for free next summer.
Although Real Madrid could be Canadian’s preferred destination but City have the financial might and infrastructure to convince him to ply his trade in the Premiere League.
Alex Grimaldo (Bayer Leverkusen)
Spanish left back had a dream 23/24 season with the invincible Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen. He was one of the central figures in the record breaking campaign for the Xabi Alonso’s side.
Grimaldo was the main creative force for his team alongwith majestic Florian Wirtz. The 29 years old former Benfica player scored 12 goals and provided 20 assists in a successful campaign where Bayer lost only once in the entirety of the season.
Although many stars from the historic season including Grimaldo have committed to stay at the club but if city offer the decent amount of money, they could land the Spanish star.
Grimaldo could seamlessly fit into this City team.Because Pep Guardiola encourages his full backs to advance forward and make a difference in the attacking third. He will add the much needed quality at City’s problem position.
